Day 6 - Trust The Flow
Welcome to Day 6:
Let’s talk about trusting the FLOW.
There are times where you feel the flow…where you’re in it. Your finger is on the pulse. Your life is filled with meaning. You’re riding the wave!
And there are times where flow is distant. You’ve lost your purpose. There are no waves in sight.
Whatever your relationship to flow...and it's always changing...
Whatever your relationship to flow...and it's always changing...
...there is a universal law on how to activate…FLOW.
Turn it on. Turn it up.

Let's talk about trusting the flow. We all have times when we're in the flow. Things are happening. You feel relevant. In your business and your social circles, you're making important contributions. You have a purpose. Your life has meaning. That's what it feels like when you're in the flow.
And then we all have times where we are distant from the flow. There's not a lot going on. You feel sort of irrelevant. You're not adding a lot of value. You're lacking purpose. You're searching for meaning. That's what it feels like when you're distant from the flow.
What does it mean to trust the flow?
This teacher, Michael Roach, he was the very first American to receive the degree of Geshe at Sera Monastery in Tibet. So this guy is a seriously wise teacher of universal law. Michael Roach is his name, and my friend Ian, the original spiritual gangster, he learned a lot from Michael Roach. And one of the lessons that Ian always is sharing that he learned from Michael Roach...
...how to get anything you want. Three steps. Number one, know what you want and write it down. Number two, find someone else that wants it too. And number three, help them get it. So let me repeat that. How to get anything you want. Number one, know what you want and write it down. Number two, find someone else that wants it to. Number three. Help them get it, and it's true.
It really works. Just to give you an example, in 2009 my first book came out. I got a big advance. There was a lot of buzz about the book, a lot of excitement, and then the book did not sell that well, and it was a big letdown. I had a few years after the book came out where I felt really distant from the flow, like my time came and went.
And it was over and what the heck happened.
And in that sort of down period, I had another friend who was writing a book. And so I told my dad about my friend's book and my dad really liked the idea. So he knows people in the entertainment and publishing worlds. My dad helped this friend get a few meetings, and lo and behold, they got a book deal with Amazon.
So this happened in like the year 2012 my friend got this book deal. And I'm telling Ian the original spiritual gangster this story, how I introduced this friend to my dad. My dad helped him get a book deal, and Ian says to me, "don't you get it? now you're going to get another book deal."
At the time, I had no idea what he was talking about.
I was the farthest thing from getting another book deal, but literally just a few months later, randomly out of the blue, I had a meeting with a publisher and they offered me a book deal. I mean, out of the blue, it dropped out of the sky. And so that was my second book. Happy is the new healthy. It did very well and opened a lot of doors.
It was a success.
Now, I did not consciously enact this universal law shared by Ian and Michael Roach, but I learned that it really, really works and it's how we know the flow can be trusted. It's how we know to initiate flow. It's how we know to turn it on and turn it up.
So think about that for a second.
What do you want right now that feels elusive to you?
and who do you know that wants the same thing?
How can you help them get it?
Again, this is universal law.
Stephen Buhner is this great naturalist, and in one of his books, he teaches that when you encounter a poisonous plant in nature, within arms reach is another plant offering remedy. And yet how many people get a rash from poison Ivy without realizing nature isn't going to screw you like that. You just need to know the remedy is close by...
And so it goes, the universe isn't going to screw you. You just need to know how to initiate flow.
Meditation is a moment to practice noticing how you're closed off, how you're in a state of need and want, how that blocks flow. And in our meditation we can adjust and open our minds and hearts to the ways that we give, share, contribute, and initiate flow.
Take a moment to get a little more comfortable
and feel the give and take of your breath. You're going to exhale it all out. Inhale it in.
Exhale it all out, and take it all in.
Exhale, inhale.
Constant flow of the breath. You don't hoard the inhale yet. Sometimes we hoard our success, our money, our stuff. We're all holding tightly to something, a person, a thing, a desire. What good does that do for you in those moments where you notice yourself holding, gripping, needing.
Activate flow, activate flow.
Let's make that our centering thought... activate flow.
For a few minutes. I will leave you to relax, to breathe, to meditate. If your attention wanders, come back to those words to center yourself in the moment. Activate flow, activate flow.
-meditation begins-
-meditation ends-
coming back to the moment,
trust the flow.
Feeling like life is moving to you and through you. And there are times where we feel that, where we're in that, and there are times where the flow feels distant. How do you get back to flow? Here's the powerful practice. What do you want? Write it down. Find someone else that wants it. help them get it.

See you tomorrow. Peace .
