Yesterday we went truffle hunting in the foothills of the Alps.

Our guide was a truffle-hunting dog called a Lagotto Romagnolo, trained specifically to pick up the scent of a truffle, hidden deep beneath the soil.

But what we found underground raised a deeper question:

what hidden things are we sensitive enough to find in ourselves?
